Examples of Agricultural Services That Will Benefit Your Farm

A problem a lot of farmers face is that the equipment necessary for certain jobs is practical only for that task, despite being very expensive. A good alternative is to hire a professional agricultural service to complete some of these tasks for you.

Here are some examples of the types of services agricultural companies like P. R. Weldhen offer.

Ploughing

One of the services offered by P. R. Welson is ploughing. Traditionally, this consisted of running a blade through the soil which would loosen or completely turn the soil before it’s sown with seeds. Nowadays, this process is more mechanical with the use of tractors and multiple rows of blades rather than using oxen or horses. This service is important because, not only does it revitalise the soil by resurfacing its nutrients and minerals, it also means that old weeds and roots can decay quicker. In essence, ploughing rebalances the soil’s properties.

Grass Seeding

It’s important that before you seed your grass, the land has been adequately ploughed as this will ensure its longevity. Once this is done, grass seeds are spread sparsely (around 50g per meter sq). The most important thing when laying grass seeds is consistency - to ensure a flat, even surface, to ensure that seeds are planted at the same depth and with roughly the same space apart. Hiring agricultural services to carry this task out with specialised machinery will ensure the long-term health of your grass.

Spraying/Fertiliser

Over time, crops draw most of the nutrients from soil so many farmers use fertilisers to top these important nutrients and minerals up. Many services now use GPS systems to track the spread more accurately which ensures a more even application. Because fertilising is bad for the environment, this also avoids using too much fertiliser which can cause damage to habitats and local wildlife. We also supply you with application records to confirm what products were used.

Hedge Trimming

After the first couple of years of their life, new hedges need a formative prune which is normally carried out in winter or spring. The benefit of using an agricultural service over doing this yourself is that agricultural services have a vast array of tools at their disposal. This means that they can get into awkward areas and can complete the job much safer. They also come with greater experience and know how to, say, cut the hedge to a ‘batter’ by ensuring that it tapers from bottom to top so the base can catch sunlight.

Flail Mowing

Flail mowing is one of the more-easily forgotten services, despite its importance. Over time, your farmlands will become overgrown and, especially around their perimeters, dense shrubbery and heavier grass will grow. This encourages unwanted pests and can damage your fencing but a normal lawn mower wouldn’t cope with its density. A specific flail mower gets the job done but it’s an expensive one off purchase. Similar to ploughing, this only needs doing once every two or three years so it could be more cost effective to hire a professional agricultural service to do this for you.
